The Basics of PRINCE2 Project Management

Understanding the basics of project management is a first step in becoming proficient at the activity.  It is simplistic to say that? wherever we are, keep a piece of paper.  Every project starts off with a thought or an idea.  It is that original thought or idea or plan that then goes into action and actually gets rolled out.  Once it’s developed and successfully executed, it results in some sort of completion.  So the first thing we must all understand is that the completion of the project is the result of a complex and detailed thought process.  I’m going to be describing as it relates to the project management process. I’ve categorized this list of steps into 5 simple categories to organize the information in a more understandable and efficient way. As can be found on a PRINCE2 belfast training qualification.

The first category is understanding of the process.  If we understand that the first and most important step to complete a project is to make a decision then we have the basis to perform the project review.  If we understand that we have a decision to make then we can better understand the day-to-day event of our projects.  The first thing a project team and a project manager should determine is: “What do we need to decide?” or “What questions do we need to ask ourselves?”  The second is where the rubber meets the road and where quality of our product is concerned. The team should determine the parameters for when the project plan will begin.  The project manager should establish the milestone dates, scope decision dates and quality metrics.  The key for being a good project manager is simply the ability to apply control in every stage of the process.  These are the ongoing reviews on the project to keep the work moving forward and to address changing project circumstances as they come up.

The next step is planning effectively.  Although we do have the concept of project planning, many people are uncomfortable with it.  I would venture to say that most of us reading this may have the same reaction.  I like to involve you in the planning process as much as possible but taking the risk for proceeding without prior planning is just not me.  We all like a solid plan.  That is the key to the success of a project.  Decisions are made as you move through the area of project planning.  You stop and examine those choices and perhaps make adjustments based on the process we’ve used.

Planning for quality.  We all want to make sure that our work is efficient and effective.  This process is important for the planning process as it is essential for a successful project setup.  Quality metrics have been established in most commenting I have done in my several self published books.  The evaluation of quality and the methods of measuring it will lend a greater value to the final product and more clients are attracted to work produced utilizing quality metrics.

ProjectInstallation.  The project leader sets priorities for the team in terms of their own skill set and resource knowledge.  Prioritizing human resources and resources is the process of determining the areas of excellence in each area.  If an area gets prioritized first then the effort and time needed to create the work to achieve that first priority is going to be significantly lower.

ProjectRunning.  Modern PMI’s first rate projects seem to be the work of running.  They areTypically integrated into the project, put a higher priority to the work, and include fewer meetings.  Projects get to a place where they are nearly gone.  The work proceeds until that point is reached.  Sometimes you have the team running while your being the Project Manager.  develops better handling methods of scheduling projects.

ProjectImplementation.  This is the process that at some point will be completed.  The work is becoming accomplished and the results will reflect the efforts put into the project.  Our ability to continue to attack and flight solo can continue, but at what cost.  The project team has burned out or will soon.  That means you may have to put more effort of your available resources into the next phase.

ProjectFeedback.  This is a topic that is sometimes in short supply or the issue of pain.  Organize community and let them know what you have enjoyed and what you have to modify or cancel.  Singer, thening Sale Agents, limittakers, Elyapo Systems Company hadmil indicatorsfor many of their projects when they started.  We have gained new perspectives, experience and understanding.

ProjectBudget.  This category covers the amounts as a result of costs, time, resources and other expenditures.  You have to understand what you are spending for and what you will receive.

ProjectTravel.  This category covers the travel that takes you to that place where you get the result in the end.  You might find it here successfully done with one or by your own means.  Do you have an open invitation to create the opportunities for yourself and others?
